ACTIVITIES:
  • SXSW Festival:  Every spring, top music industry executives come attend Austin’s “South by Southwest” Festival to find the newest group of future stars.  Visitors are the first to hear what the nation will be listening to by the end of summer.
  • Wildflowers: The Texas Hill Country is full of color every spring from the Bluebonnets and Mexican Hats in bloom.
  • Wine Trail: There are more than twenty wineries in Austin.  Wine tasting can be done during Texas Hill Country “Wine and Wildflowers” in April or at the three-day Wine Festival in May.
  • South Congress Avenue: Home to antique dealers, bistros and quirky shops.  It is called So-Co” by locals and is their design district.
  • Performing Arts: The nation’s “live music” capital offers every musical choice from baroque to Country.  Ballet and touring Broadway shows can also be enjoyed in Austin.
  • Art Galleries: On the weekends, start at the Artists’ Market for an outdoor event held each Saturday on West 6th Street.
  • Texas State Capital and Grounds:  The Renaissance Revival structure is the largest state capitol in the country, a massive structure of red granite, all quarried locally. The staff offers 45-minute tours daily just a block away from the state’s history museum.
  • Biking: There is an abundance of bike trails.  This is where Lance Armstrong used to ride.  Outside of the city, there is a network of mountain bike trails.
  • Lyndon Baines Johnson National Historical Park: Almost an hour away from Austin, is the boyhood home of the 36th President.  From the visitor’s center, bus tours take guests to the LBJ Ranch, once known prominently as the “Texas White House.”
